The Public Aid Organization held a conference about study the payment of farmers dues in Iraq as part of the activities of a project (Enhancing Economic Recovery of Agricultural and Small Projects) on Friday, 10 May 2024.
The conference was attended by various representatives from both local and central government entities from Baghdad, Ninawa, and Salahaddin, including representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, provincial councils, the National Security Advisor’s Office, district and sub-district directors, the Farmers Union, and agricultural bank officials. The conference discussed the challenges facing the payment of unpaid farmers’ dues during the wheat and barley harvest seasons when terrorist groups controlled the Salahaddin and Ninawa provinces. The conference concluded with several recommendations for the establishment of a committee from relevant ministries to address this issue and lists of names of farmers whose payments are overdue .
