As part of the project “Improving the Human Rights Conditions and Enhancing Democratic Participation,” the Ather Volunteer Team in Nineveh Governorate implemented a series of awareness-raising activities under the “Cinema for Climate” initiative, aimed at increasing students’ environmental awareness of the risks of climate change and its growing impacts on Iraq.
The initiative included the screening of an awareness-raising film produced using artificial intelligence technologies and presented in a simplified manner appropriate to the targeted age groups. The activities were complemented by awareness sessions addressing the concept of climate change, its causes, and its effects on daily life.
The initiative was implemented in several schools across Nineveh Governorate, including Amer bin Abdullah Secondary School for Boys, Al-Sharqiya Secondary School for Boys, Hafsa Intermediate School for Girls, and Al-Asma’i Secondary School for Girls, with notable engagement from students and teaching staff.
The activities also included the distribution of pre- and post-assessment forms to measure students’ knowledge levels and assess the initiative’s impact on enhancing environmental awareness.
The initiative concluded with the selection of a group of students to serve as junior environmental journalists, tasked with monitoring environmental issues and contributing factors to climate change within their school and community surroundings, thereby promoting a culture of community participation and environmental monitoring.
