In an Atmosphere of Hope and Collective Effort: Kirkuk Hosts the Closing Conferences of Two Pioneering Initiatives
On Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, 2025, the city of Kirkuk witnessed the successful conclusion of two impactful initiatives, implemented with the support of the British Council and under the supervision of the Public Aid Organization – Kirkuk Office (PAO). The closing conferences were attended by a wide range of stakeholders, including local government officials, representatives from public institutions, civil society activists, and youth participants who played a key role in the success of both initiatives.
The activities began on Friday, May 16, with the closing conference of the Environmental Initiative, which aimed to raise awareness and shed light on the environmental challenges facing Kirkuk. The event brought together representatives from the Kirkuk Environmental Directorate, the Kirkuk Municipality, and members of the Provincial Council, along with ecological stakeholders and community activists. During the conference, a detailed presentation outlined the goals, stages, and achievements of the initiative, including a visual overview of the project’s progress. The youth participants, who led on-the-ground and awareness activities, were recognized as a driving force behind the initiative’s success.
The following day, Saturday, May 17, marked the conclusion of the Youth Connection – Unemployment Initiative, a project that has represented a journey of hope and empowerment for young people. Launched in September 2024, the initiative aimed to tackle youth unemployment by providing training, enhancing job readiness, and facilitating connections between young job seekers and employers.
A highlight of the closing conference was the official launch of the new digital platform: Youth Career Iraq. This ambitious platform was created to serve as a bridge between aspiring youth and employers across Iraq. More than just a digital tool, the platform is envisioned as a space of opportunity, offering Iraqi youth a pathway toward building a dignified and independent professional future.
