Awareness Seminar in Al-Chibayish Highlights Climate Change and the Role of Community Action
An awareness seminar was held in Al-Chibayish District, Thi Qar Governorate, on July 15, 2025, as part of the activities of the project “Improving Human Rights Condition and Enhancing Democratic Participation (EDP)”, implemented by the Public Aid Organization (PAO) with the support of the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), and in collaboration with the Ozone Network for Environmental Protection.
The seminar brought together 11 participants, including academics, journalists, and civil society activists, who discussed major climate challenges facing Iraq. The event was held under the slogan:
“For the Integration of Local Community and Civil Society Efforts in Addressing Climate Change”
Organized by the Marshes Cultural Center, a member of the Ozone Network, the session focused on the local dimensions of climate change, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and community-based responses. This seminar is part of a nationwide initiative that includes fifty seminars across Iraq’s provinces, aiming to foster broader community engagement in the national dialogue on climate issues.
