As part of the “Improving Human Rights Conditions and Enhancing Democratic Participation” project implemented by the Public Aid Organization (PAO) with support from the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), the preparatory committee of the conference in Basra carried out a series of visits to several governmental bodies and universities in the governorate. These visits were conducted as part of the preparations for holding the conference titled “The Role of Civil Society in Combating Climate Change,” scheduled to take place on December 18–19, 2025, in Basra.
The visits included Basra Oil Company, the Southern Environment Protection and Improvement Directorate, and the Marine Science Center, in addition to several universities such as the University of Basra, Al-Kunuz University, Al-Warka’a University College, and the Southern Technical University. The World Food Programme (WFP) was also visited.
These visits aimed to coordinate efforts and enhance the active participation of governmental and academic institutions, as well as civil society organizations, in supporting dialogue on addressing climate change challenges.
