In a step that reflects a strong belief in the importance of community partnership in supporting education, Public Aid Organization (PAO) announced the formation of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in three Accelerated Learning schools targeted under the Multi-Year Recovery Programme in Nineveh, with support from the Education Cannot Wait initiative.
The committees were formed over two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, 24–25 February 2026, as part of the project’s implementation across four Iraqi governorates: Nineveh, Kirkuk, Sulaymaniyah, and Al-Muthanna. Through this effort, the organization seeks to empower local communities to play a more active role in supporting schools and improving the learning environment, particularly within Accelerated Education programmes serving students affected by exceptional circumstances.
The newly formed committees will undertake key responsibilities, beginning with the development, implementation, and follow-up of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) to ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment. Their role also includes collaboratively analyzing the challenges facing schools and identifying priority actions, organizing regular meetings, documenting decisions and monitoring their implementation, strengthening communication between home and school, reinforcing community partnership in ways that serve students’ best interests, and promoting children’s rights.
