As part of the project “Improving the Human Rights Condition and Enhancing Democratic Participation EDP” implemented by the Public Aid Organization with support from the Norwegian People’s Aid and in partnership with the Ozone Network for Environmental Preservation, an awareness seminar on climate change was held in Muthanna Governorate on July 16, 2025, with the participation of 26 members of the local community. The seminar was organized by the Al-weyam Organization for Human Rights Defense, one of the Ozone Network’s member organizations. It focused on highlighting the growing environmental risks associated with climate change, its increasing impact on individuals and communities, and discussed ways to adapt, prevent, and address the issue through locally grounded solutions.
The session featured active engagement from participants, who contributed valuable insights and suggestions reflecting a rising awareness of environmental challenges and the importance of collective action for sustainability and environmental protection. This event is part of a broader national initiative involving 50 awareness seminars across Iraq’s provinces, aimed at raising public awareness about climate change and supporting national efforts to confront its effects through dialogue, education, and inclusive participation.
