For the Euphrates: A Youth-Led Initiative to Protect the River and Enhance Community Engagement

Under the patronage of the Improving Human Rights Conditions and Enhancing Democratic Participation project, implemented by the Public Aid Organization (PAO) with support from the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), a new initiative titled “For the Euphrates” was launched in central Iraq. The initiative is carried out by the Tulu Iraq Volunteer Team, driven by a youthful spirit aiming to create positive change.

The team held its first meeting on November 1, 2025, during which members discussed the initial steps of the initiative. They agreed on a final work plan to study the topic, in addition to signing work contracts with the researcher and data collector. The relevant government departments to be coordinated with for the start of the field study were also identified.

In parallel, the team began reviewing the latest studies related to the initiative’s subject, while task distribution among members was carried out to ensure an organized and clear start.

“For the Euphrates” is an initiative that seeks to understand the challenges facing the river and to open the door for youth-led, well-studied solutions that address reality and support both people and the environment.
