Conference in Halabja Highlights Protection of Natural Water Springs and Environmental Governance

On December 4, 2025, the Youth Vision Team in Halabja organized a conference titled “Protecting Natural Water Springs and Enhancing Environmental Awareness in Halabja.” The event was held within the framework of the “Improving Human Rights Conditions and Enhancing Democratic Participation” project, implemented by PAO with support from Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).

The conference brought together local government officials, including the Director of the Halabja Environment Office, the Deputy Director General of Tourism, representatives from the Directorate of Endowments and Religious Affairs, the Veterinary Department, the Human Rights Office, the Directorate of Education, the Head of the Mukhtars’ Group, as well as civil society representatives and religious teachers.

The event featured the presentation of a field study prepared by the team on the status of water springs in and around Halabja, followed by a group discussion on previous efforts and existing challenges related to protecting these natural resources. The conference concluded with a set of proposals aimed at strengthening spring protection and supporting environmental efforts in the governorate.
