Baghdad, 8 December 2025 – The Working Group on “Harmonizing Iraqi Legislation to Address Environmental Challenges and Climate Change” concluded an important meeting in Baghdad, announcing a clear roadmap for reviewing and improving the legislative framework related to the environment in Iraq.
The meeting was held at the Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies, under the National Security Advisory, and comes as a continuation of the outcomes of the recent Erbil workshop organized by the Public Aid Organization (PAO) within the program Improving Human Rights Conditions and Enhancing Democratic Participation.
Discussions focused on practical steps required to achieve comprehensive harmonization of national environmental laws, with an initial emphasis on reviewing the Draft Law on Environmental Protection and Improvement. Participants reached a consensus on the importance of engaging all relevant stakeholders in the legislative process to ensure effective enforcement and impact.
