The “Tilu” volunteer team in Najaf, in cooperation with the Public Aid Organization (PAO), held a conference on Thursday, 27 November 2025, to discuss the issue of river pollution—particularly the Euphrates River. The event was organized within the “Promote the Human Rights Conditions and Enhancing Democratic Participation” program, supported by the Norwegian People’s Aid, and as part of the “Together for the Euphrates” initiative.
The conference included a presentation of a detailed report on the current state of pollution and its causes, followed by a dialogue session with representatives from the Directorate of Environment, the Directorate of Water Resources, and the Kufa Municipality, in addition to a civil activist. The discussion focused on the roles of official institutions, the responsibilities of the local community, and the available options to reduce pollution.
The conference aims to develop practical recommendations and proposals to be submitted to the concerned authorities, while also strengthening the role of citizens and civil society organizations in advocating for more effective measures to protect the Euphrates River and water sources in Najaf.
