On an occasion of significant environmental and humanitarian importance, and amid the growing challenges facing our environment as a result of climate change and its impacts, the city of Erbil hosted the Ozone Award Ceremony on the evening of Wednesday, 16 September 2026. The award aims to recognize individuals who have made outstanding efforts and launched distinguished initiatives in the field of environmental protection and raising awareness of the risks threatening our planet.
The ceremony was organized by the Ozone Network, in partnership with the Public Aid Organization, with the support of the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA). During the event, the Ozone Award was presented to four individuals in recognition of their notable contributions and efforts in environmental protection and addressing climate change.

The award coincides with the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, observed annually on 16 September, providing an opportunity to highlight the importance of environmental protection and to strengthen shared responsibility in addressing climate and environmental challenges.
The Ozone Award is not merely a symbolic recognition of distinguished individuals and institutions; it also represents a message of encouragement and motivation to everyone working to protect the environment. It seeks to broaden community participation in addressing climate change and promote a culture of environmental protection as a shared responsibility that requires the combined efforts of government institutions, civil society organizations, and individuals.
