What limits citizens’ participation in public affairs? And how can civil society’s role in decision-making be strengthened? These questions framed a community meeting held in Dhi Qar governorate on 27 August 2026, under the project “Improving Human Rights Conditions and Enhancing Democracy Participation”
The meeting, hosted at the Sumerian Hotel hall in cooperation with council member Ms. Zainab Al-Asadi, brought together representatives of government and local institutions, civil society organizations, volunteer teams, and representatives of persons with disabilities. Participants reviewed and discussed the findings of a study on community participation in Iraq, which examined the reality of citizen and civil society participation in public affairs and the key challenges affecting their ability to participate effectively in decision-making.
