The Public Aid Organization (PAO), with the support of Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), organized a dialogue session in Sulaymaniyah on 31 August 2026, as part of the “Improving Human Rights Conditions and Enhancing Democratic Participation” project. The session aimed to create a direct space for dialogue between communities and decision-makers and to strengthen community participation in decision-making processes.
The session brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives of government institutions and departments, civil society organizations, academia, youth, activists, and representatives of persons with disabilities.
The discussion focused on the findings of a study examining the state of community participation in decision-making. Participants discussed the key challenges limiting effective participation, identified priorities, and proposed measures to promote more inclusive and effective participation for different segments of society.
The session forms part of ongoing efforts to support community dialogue, promote human rights and democratic participation, and contribute to building a more inclusive environment that is responsive to the needs of society.
