Journalist Training

 

Within the activities of the project to promote the right to a fair trial, improve conditions of detention, and abolish torture, funded by the European Union, a training workshop was held, targeting 20 young journalists and in coordination with media networks from all governorates of Iraq, including journalists in the Kurdistan region, the training course was specialized on investigative reports on the right to a fair trial, improving detention conditions and abolishing torture. The course began with an overview of the conditions of prisoners, then an overview of the project, the right to a fair trial (according to the Convention against Torture), and the mechanisms of national protection of human rights were presented by judges and specialized jurists. On the second day, there were specialized sessions, where the Standard Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners and Detainees according to the (Mandela International Rules) were deliberated, and the mechanisms of monitoring, information collection, and fact-finding were explained when preparing investigative press reports.
