The Public Aid Organization held a dialogue session on Thursday, November 7, 2024, with the participation of representatives of the Basra Court of Appeal, deputy public prosecutors, judicial investigators, with lawyers. The session dealt with the issue of strengthening compliance with international standards and legal procedures related to fair trials of juveniles. The session aimed at exchanging views among the participants, and representatives of the judicial and legal family in Basra governorate, where the gaps that hinder the achievement of justice and possible ways to enhance Iraq’s compliance with international and legal obligations were discussed.
They also identified challenges and issues that need support and gaps that contribute to increasing crime rates. These efforts come within the project’s activities “Promote the Right to Fair Trials, Improve Detention Conditions, Abolishing Torture”. Implemented by the PAO in cooperation with the NPA organization, and the IOL organization, funded by the European Union.
