Roots and Drawings: Sulaymaniyah Celebrates Environment and Childhood Together

As part of the Public Aid Organization’s PAO coverage of two international events in June 2026, the organization’s team in Sulaymaniyah carried out two activities aimed at children, placing their environmental and psychological development at the forefront of priorities.

An Environmental Activity at a Local Nursery

To mark World Environment Day, the organization’s volunteers organized an awareness visit for children to a plant nursery run by one of its volunteers, aimed at strengthening environmental awareness and encouraging interest in green spaces. During the visit, the children learned about the importance of plants, how to care for them, and how to recycle plant waste. They also listened to the volunteer share her experience of establishing her environmental project and how a small initiative can grow into a productive venture that serves the environment and promotes sustainability. The activity concluded with the distribution of seedlings and young trees to the children, encouraging them to take up planting and instilling values of environmental conservation from an early age.

A Recreational Activity for World Children’s Day

In a parallel occasion, the organization’s volunteers organized a recreational activity that included an outdoor outing along with artistic and creative activities. Through drawing, the children expressed their dreams and future ambitions, amid an atmosphere of fun and interaction. The activity culminated in the distribution of gifts to the participants.

Both activities are part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to support children and nurture their talents, and to strengthen the role of volunteer work and community initiatives, affirming that Sulaymaniyah puts children first this June, through two paths: planting a seedling and planting a dream.
