Youth Lead the Way Toward Greener Universities in Baghdad

At the beginning of April, youth initiatives were launched in Baghdad as part of the Youth Connect Project, implemented by the Public Aid Organization (PAO) with support from the British Council. One of the most prominent initiatives, titled “Green Campus Initiative,” was led by a group of young men and women who had previously received specialized training in managing and implementing community initiatives.
The idea began with a series of coordination efforts led by the youth team with several private universities. The team communicated with university administrations and college deanships to present the initiative and its environmental goals. These efforts were met with notable cooperation, culminating in the launch of the first activities at Al-Israa University.
On the first day of implementation, the team successfully achieved several impactful steps, including:
●Installing 12 recycling bins ♻️ designated for cigarette waste, metals, plastic, and paper.
●Distributing eco-friendly notebooks and reusable water bottles to students and staff.
●Organizing and placing awareness posters across the university campus.
●Creating an interactive space with students through discussions and questions about environmental protection.
The event was attended by the college deanship and the Deanship of the Department of Biomedical Engineering Technologies, reflecting the administration’s support for the initiative and their confidence in the role of youth in driving positive change within the academic environment.
The first day was marked by strong student attendance and active engagement, as students directly participated in the activities, creating a vibrant atmosphere of enthusiasm and collaboration, and enhancing the initiative’s impact across the campus.
