Safety First: An Initiative in Anbar Schools

As part of ongoing efforts to promote a safe learning environment, schools in Anbar witnessed the implementation of the “School Safety” initiative from April 5 to 8, 2026, targeting 10 schools with the active participation of youth volunteers.
This initiative was carried out as part of activities complementing the “Youth Connect Program,” implemented by the Public Aid Organization – Youth Connect Program, where young volunteers led the execution of various activities under the supervision of the organization’s team in Anbar. These efforts aimed to raise awareness of safety procedures and enhance schools’ readiness to respond to emergencies.
The initiative kicked off on April 5 with a practical training session for 20 teachers, focusing on the use of fire extinguishers and rapid response mechanisms, in cooperation with the Civil Defense Directorate. This step aimed to strengthen teachers’ ability to effectively handle risks within the school environment.
On April 6, the focus shifted to first aid training, where participants were introduced to basic emergency response skills and how to deal with sudden injuries, boosting the confidence of both students and staff in handling critical health situations.
By April 7, the initiative moved into its practical phase, equipping 5 schools with safety tools, including fire extinguishers and first aid kits. Students were also trained on how to use them properly. In addition, awareness materials such as posters and brochures were distributed to promote a culture of safety and proper behavior during emergencies.
The initiative concluded on April 8 by expanding its reach to 5 additional schools, providing them with the same equipment and materials to maximize impact and ensure broader preparedness.
Overall, the initiative highlighted the vital role of youth volunteers in supporting their communities. It significantly improved awareness of safety measures among students and school staff, and strengthened schools’ capacity to respond to potential risks, contributing to a safer and more stable learning environment.
